The Surfboard Studio — Preston, Melbourne
Make Your Own Surfboard
Almost every surfer has the dream at some stage — making their own board — but often doesn't know where to start. The process can be daunting, especially if you're not familiar with design principles and the often-overlooked process of glassing and sanding. For several years, The Surfboard Studio has been running hands-on courses from our factory in Preston, for first-timers and returning board builders alike.
What the Course Covers
Step 1
Blank Selection & Template
Understanding rocker, outline and foam volume before you pick up a tool. Every decision flows from here.
Step 2
Shaping
Rails, concaves and tail shape — worked through step by step with direct instruction throughout. You're shaping your own board from the start.
Step 3
Glassing & Lamination
The part most tutorials skip over. We don't. This is where boards succeed or fail — and where most home builders run into trouble.
Step 4
Sanding & Finishing
How to get a finish that holds up in the water and looks good on the wall. Technique and material knowledge both covered.
First-Timers & Returning Builders
First-Timers
No experience required. You'll work through every stage of the build from blank to finished board, with instruction at each step.
Returning Builders
Already shaped a board but want to tighten your technique? The course covers the full process — come in to work on the areas you want to improve.
Your Own Board
Every board that comes out of these courses is different. You're not following a template — you're making something built around how you surf.
Dates, pricing and what to bring — all on the course page.
